5. Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi (Storms prevented us from boarding the ferry to Westman islands)
6. Skógafoss Waterfall (epic!)
7.Sólheimajökull Glacier
8. The Endless Black Beach & Dyrhólaey
9. Vik Town and Vík i Myrdal Church (got a glimpse of the Aurora for the first time)
10. Reynisfjara Beach (completely obliterated by the recent storm, no beach left)
11. Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon
12. Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach
13. Stokksnes mirror beach | Viking Village | Viking Cafe & Guesthouse (great ambience and people)
14. Seydisfjordur (no Campsite open, we were forced to stay in a guesthouse)
15. Husavik (again be mindful no open campsites this time of the year, Arbol guesthouse overnight again) and Geosea - Geothermal Sea Baths
16. Goðafoss and Forest Lagoon at Akureyri
17. Overnight at town campsite in Blönduós and got the light for a second time!
18. Hvitserkur - bad snow storm the night before made a descent impossible to the beach.
19. Guðrúnarlaug Hot Spring - a rarely visited little jewel in the middle of nowhere and superb!
20. Overnight at a closed campsite in Borðeyri- all guesthouses fully occupied, plan ahead if you get stuck in this area, weather made a turn for the absolute worse and we had a few life-threatening moments on some icy mountain passes, be very mindful of the weather especially crosswinds up here.
20. Búðakirkja and some more bad weather sever storms hit the western parts.
21. Overnight in a great campsite in Búðardalur town and got the lights for a third time.
22. Finally down to Reykjavik in horrible driving conditions but the afternoon cleared and we had a magical afternoon getting good shots in at Hallgrimskirkja, Sun Voyager and a casual stroll in Old Town Reykjavik.
23. Dropped off camper at airport and departed for Heathrow connecting back to Johannesburg.
Tips we can share if you plan to do a similar camper trip:
- buy most of your supplies in the bigger towns of the south, shopping in the north can be challenging
- make use of the complimentary fuel tag supplied by rental companies- fuel is very pricey
- you cannot, repeat cannot survive without the following apps or dare to plan ahead unless you check them frequently Safetravel, Vedur, Parka, Færð & Veður and lastly https://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/ for aurora forecasts.
