-44 degrees in Finland: the coldest temperature in Scandinavia in 25 years
In Sweden, Norway, and Finland, the temperature has recently been around 40 degrees below zero.
After several frosty days with temperatures below -40 degrees, the winter cold reached its climax on Friday night.
This is the lowest temperature measured in some of the three Nordic countries since February 1999.
An extremely cold night in northern Finland surpassed the previous cold record for the Scandinavian countries this millennium, where the previous night's temperature was -44.0 degrees, which was measured at Storbo in northernmost Sweden in 2001.
It was almost as cold in Norway. In Kautokeino the temperature reached -43.5 degrees, and in Nymakka in northern Sweden the temperature reached -43.6 degrees.
The lowest temperatures in 25 years were recorded in the border area between Sweden, Norway and Finland.
