The presence of Chinese private security companies (PSCs) is growing in Africa as Beijing strengthens its foothold in the continent. The Belt and Road Initiative has led to huge influx of Chinese nationals and the positioning of over 10,000 Chinese companies in Africa, as per reports. The PSCs are involved in providing passive security services, such as access control and protection against theft & violence. However, experts say China is also using the PSCs to maintain its discreet military presence in Africa and secure its interests.
