Jailed Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi awarded Nobel Peace Prize

The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian human rights activist imprisoned in Tehran.

Ms Mohammadi became the 19th woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee cited her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all as reasons for the award.

After the announcement, Mohammadi wrote that the Nobel Peace Prize made her feel more resolved, more responsible, more passionate, and more hopeful.

Ms Mohammadi is currently serving multiple sentences in Tehran's Evin Prison.
