The Morning After 22 July: Identity, Grief, and a Country Still CountingOn Saturday 23 July 2011, the morning after the attacks on the government quarter in Oslo and the AUF summer camp on Utøya, a name entered the Norwegian and international press: Anders Behring Breivik, 32, a Norwegian citizen.

Police were treating him as acting alone. The number of dead was still moving as identifications continued. It would later be fixed at 77 people kiii — 8 in Oslo, 69 on Utøya — with many more wounded.
Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg called it a national tragedy, and the worst act of violence in Norway since the Second World War.
