Russia has sent two supersonic Tu-160 nuclear missile bombers soaring over the Barents Sea north of Norway, Finland and Sweden. The Tu-160 bombers were escorted by MiG-31 fighter jets, which were on a mission that lasted more than seven hours. The Russian Defence Ministry said that the flights were carried out in strict compliance with international rules of airspace use. The two “White Swans” flew close to Finnish and Swedish shores in an apparent warning to NATO and the alliance’s aspiring members. The flyover comes as the Russian leader met his Iranian and Turkish counterpart in Tehran for trilateral talks.
