Norway's King Harald V has died at the age of 89. The royal palace confirmed the king's death, after which the Norwegian national flag was lowered to half-mast. King Harald V had been receiving treatment in a hospital in Oslo since August 17. He ascended the throne of Norway in 1991 and was the country's head of state for more than 3 decades. King Harald V was very popular among the Norwegian people due to his relatively simple, people-friendly and reformist personality. After the death of King Harald V, his son and Crown Prince Haakon became the new king of Norway.
