The Russian Defence Ministry has claimed to have killed a group of US-trained fighters in Syria on 4 August. According to Russia, the “militants” were based at the Al-Tanf garrison, which is controlled by the US. A US military official said that the operation amounts to a “significant increase in provocation”. As Putin’s war raged in Ukraine, Moscow recently accused the US of training terrorists at Syria's al-Tanf base to move them to Ukraine's Donbas.
